What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Injections?

Every once in a while, something comes along and the problem is solved! That something is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). In recent years this medical advancement has come to the forefront and continuously proves to have great results. There is a great benefit for using your own tissue, preliminary eliminating allergic reactions.

Platelet Rich Plasma, also known as PRP, is derived from the patient’s own blood and re-injected into the site of treatment. Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing.

Blood is made up of four main components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Platelets play a key role in the healing process because they release the growth factors necessary for healing damaged tissue. Plasma is merely the liquid component of blood that carries the red and white cells, plus the platelets. The efficacy of certain growth factors in healing various injuries and the concentrations of these growth factors found within PRP are the basis for the use of PRP in tissue repair. The platelets collected in PRP are activated by the addition of thrombin and/or calcium chloride, which induces the release of these factors from alpha granules.

So how does the PRP procedure actually work?

The PRP procedure involves drawing one’s own blood and centrifuging it so that the plasma fractions with platelets collects in the tube. This platelet-rich plasma in fractions platelets and growth factors is very useful for tissue regeneration and healing. After the blood is drawn and centrifuged, we concentrate your platelets. When these concentrated platelets are reinjected, they not only turn into healing and activated cells, but also activate dormant ones that have gone into a quiescent state.

By injecting these concentrated growth factors into the hair, it stimulates the hair follicles to grow. When injected into the face, it fills and lifts the aging face. When injected into joints, it repairs the damages.

We have excellent results injecting it into joints, crinkly skin on the body, and there is also a sexual application for both men and women, called the Casanova and Cleopatra that we offer in the practice. When injecting it into the fine lines around the lips it drastically reduces the wrinkles, especially the lines that cause lipstick bleeding. If you have a sunken eye look, the PRP seems to magically fill them out as well. It is especially good around and under the eyes. By injecting the cheeks and around the mouth, you can bring your face back to its youthful appearance. Over all it is a fantastic procedure to keep you looking and feeling younger!

What are the advantages of PRP?
  • Simple, non-surgical procedures
  • Quick in-office procedure, which takes less than 1 hour
  • Safe and reliable procedure
  • Quick recovery
  • Immediate and noticeable results
What do PRP Injections do?

Platelet activation plays a key role in the body’s natural healing process. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate hair growth, repair injured joints, and also rejuvenate facial tissues.

How safe are PRP Injections?

Overall, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections are a safe, effective, and innovative treatment option with no risk of allergic reaction because it is coming from your own body. Patients with a history of heavy smoking, drug, and alcohol use should not have PRP treatment. Medical diagnoses  such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenia, sepsis, hypofibrinogenaemia, hemodynamic instability, acute and chronic infections, chronic liver disease, anti-coagulation therapy, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders are not candidates for PRP.

What is a PRP Facial?

A steady trend over the past 20 years has been for patients to seek less-invasive procedures for facial rejuvenation. The PRP Facial is a cutting-edge rejuvenation and is a quick 20-minute in office procedure. After blood is drawn from the patient, it is spun down to retrieve the most viable growth factors and platelets. After centrifugation, the platelet and growth factors (the top layer) are extracted and re-applied to the area of concern in the face, using a micro-needling tool.

Facial PRP improves skin texture, lines, and wrinkles. By placing it into the deeper skin layer, fibroblasts and other cells can be stimulated to give a youthful appearance. Areas like crêpe areas under eyes, necks and upper lips can show dramatic improvement. The general texture and turgor of the skin will also improve. Anyone who has had problems tolerating anti-aging products or procedures will be encouraged by the fact they are using their own cells and tissues. The most dramatic results so far have been in the crêpe skin areas such as under eyes, necks and décolletage areas.

Are you a candidate for the PRP Facial?

Any patient who wishes to reduce facial volume loss, fine lines, and textural changes of the skin is suitable for this procedure. It also appeals to the patient who is looking for a natural approach to volumizing the face and treating fine lines. Because PRP is pulled from the patient’s own growth factors from their blood, there is no risk for rejection, infection, or an allergic reaction.

Which areas can Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) be used for?

This procedure combined with dermal fillers, Botox injections, and laser surgery truly make an incredible difference. PRP therapy treatments are non-surgical in-office procedures with no scarring and no downtime!

How long does the treatment take?

The procedure is quick – the actual injection portion only takes about 10-15 minutes. A topical numbing agent is applied prior to the injection to reduce discomfort, therefore an additional 20 minutes for numbing is required.

What is PRP for Hair Loss?

Whether it is genetic, due to stress, bad haircare, or any medical condition, hair loss is a prime concern for many men and women these days. PRP, is an effective and safe treatment for hair loss and is showing very impressive results. It is injected on the scalp in the areas which suffer from hair loss. PRP therapy (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a proactive therapeutic option for male and female patients experiencing hair loss. PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions.

Are you a candidate for PRP Hair Loss Treatment?

Men and females who have thinning hair or suffer from male pattern baldness can benefit from it and are good candidates. People who have lost all hair cannot undergo this treatment as it does not help grow new hair on a bald patch. It can only make the existing thinning hair thicker by strengthening the hair follicles.

What results can be expected?

The treatment requires two to four sessions, each session four weeks apart for best results. Along with it, one may have to take prescription medications like Minoxidil and Propercia to support your procedure along with Telemorx for quick healing. Patients will soon see a fuzz of hair four weeks after the first session. The treatment not only promotes hair growth but also strengthens hair follicles. Having a series of treatments are typically recommended to receive desirable results. It is a safe procedure without any side-effects. PRP therapy offers a promising alternative for natural hair growth for those patients who are not candidates for surgery.

A topical numbing agent is applied prior to the injection in order to reduce discomfort, therefore an additional 20 minutes for numbing is required. Due to recent addition therapy to PRP, we have developed a spray to stimulate hair growth which should be used daily. Massage into your scalp two times per day (for 2 weeks) which helps to stimulate growth.

What is PRP in Joints?

Blood is made up of four main components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. In recent years this medical advancement has come to the forefront and shows great results. Along with the benefit of using your own tissue for eliminating allergic reactions there is the added benefit of mobilizing your own stem cells (growth factors). Platelet-Rich Plasma injections is a state-of-the-art, medical procedure that provides joint relief in the treatment of joint pain and tendon regeneration.

What areas can PRP be used for?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be used in joint problems to reduce pain, improve joint function, and delay and even stop the progression of joint degeneration. It speeds healing in tendon and other musculoskeletal injuries and in problems like arthritis.

PRP is typically injected into the knee but can also be used in the shoulder, wrist, or elbow. PRP delivers a high concentration of growth factors to arthritic joints and injured tendons. Injection of PRP to the injured tendon provides the tendon tissue with healing growth factors that are otherwise difficult to deliver to the site because of the poor blood supply found in these areas.
