Is Laser Hair Removal right for me?
Unwanted hair can be removed from any area of the body. If you have concerns about unsightly hair on your face/neck, chest, legs, back or bikini area, armpits, butt, or even toes, laser hair removal can solve your problem! You may also wish to have hair removed in other areas which are commonly shaved. At The Murray Center, we will take care of you and your needs.
What types of skin and hair color do you treat?
The Sciton® Laser or the IPL machine treat a wide range of skin and hair colors. The right energy settings for the hair removal laser will vary from person to person, depending on the pigmentation level of your skin and hair, as well as how sensitive the targeted area is. Also as a mental note for women, as you are closer to your period or on period, you will be a little more sensitive to the lasers than if you weren’t. After the proper intensity level is determined, the laser will be directed at the root of your hair follicles. The pigmentation of your hair absorbs the energy from the laser, so those with dark hair will absorb more energy than those with lighter hair. The energy from the laser causes a portion of the hair follicles to die off permanently. A series of six treatments is needed so that hairs in an ‘inactive’ growth phase can be treated.
How many treatments are needed?
Treatments are usually every six weeks and it usually takes 6 sessions. Hair can only be permanently removed when it is in the anagen hair growth phase which only occurs about every 6-9 months, therefore, to really remove hair permanently it takes about 6 sessions. Keep in mind, a maintenance treatment and/or treatments may be needed for those stubborn, little stragglers that want to hold on just a bit longer to your lovely skin.
What to expect?
At your consultation, our Laser & Skin Specialist will discuss the areas of the body that you want to treat. Then, on your scheduled appointment day, the targeted area for hair removal will be prepped to ensure the best possible results.
How effective is the laser hair removal?
How long is the Laser Hair Removal procedure?
The procedure itself varies in length, depending on the size of the area to be targeted. For example, small areas may only take a few minutes, while larger areas may take up to 45 minutes to 1 hour. There may be some discomfort during the procedure, which is often described as comparable to snapping a rubber band on your skin. Topical anesthetic can be applied to minimize discomfort along with the “chiller” which blows ice cold air out.
What should patients experience after treatment?
Following the procedure, patients may experience mild swelling or redness which often dissipates in just a few hours. There is usually not any lasting discomfort. Over the next few weeks, the affected hair will separate from its follicle and fall out. Tanning should be avoided both before and after laser hair removal. It will be important to wear sunblock on any areas that will be visible to the sun, especially if visible on a daily basis – such as your face or arms, etc.
Enjoy smoothness on any area of the body without the irritation and discomfort waxing and shaving can cause!
