BOTOX®/DYSPORT®

Perhaps the most well-known injectable, BOTOX®/DYSPORT® has been used for decades to help gently relax the muscles under the skin, giving rise to smoother facial features and giving your skin a youthful appearance.

Treatment with BOTOX®/DYSPORT® is a non-surgical, safe, and effective way to reduce wrinkles caused by the actions of facial muscles. It helps smooth frown lines, crow’s feet, creases on the forehead and in between eyebrows, relax bands on the neck, and sculpt the shape of the eyebrow. Other areas that may be injected include the nose, lip, chin, and jaw. Treatments are individualized after an assessment of facial muscles by our expert physician.
In some cases, it can also treat chronic migraines, excessive sweating under the arms, feet, hands, and certain kinds of muscle spasms.

BOTOX®/DYSPORT® Q & A

BOTOX®/DYSPORT® is a non-surgical neurotoxin treatment that typically lasts three to four months and should be repeated every three or four months or so to maintain results. As we all want to age gracefully and the aging process cannot be completely stopped, it is important to be consistent with maintenance treatments!

Men and women who have BOTOX®/DYSPORT® treatments tell us that as a result, they feel the following benefits:
• More refreshed and vibrant
• Softer, younger-looking skin
• Smoother contours around the face, between the brows, and at the corner of the eyes
• Increased mood

What is BOTOX/DYSPORT?

BOTOX®/DYSPORT® is a purified protein derivative of onabotulinumtoxinA. It is a class of drugs called “Neuromodulators or Neurotoxins”. It is used in a very dilute form. It affects the nerve endings of the muscles where it is injected and weakens the muscle, thereby softening wrinkles of the face. This prevents the targeted muscle from contracting, until the drug wears off. Once the drug wears off, the nerve returns to normal activity.
After about 5 to 8 days after injection, you will notice improvement in the wrinkles.
It is sometimes used in conjunction with dermal filler materials, such as Juvéderm or Restylane products.

Is BOTOX/DYSPORT right for me? Where can I use it?

If you are concerned about the look of crow’s feet, wrinkles, and creases around your brow, mouth and face, BOTOX®/DYSPORT® may be the right choice for you.

Botox treats wrinkles that are caused by the dynamic action of muscles wrinkling up the skin. These include:

  • frown lines between the eyebrows
  • crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes)
  • strong horizontal wrinkles in the forehead
  • wrinkles around the mouth and lips
  • muscular bands in the front of the neck
  • Botox can also be used as a treatment for excess sweating
How does it work?

Normally your brain sends electrical messages to your muscles so they can contract and move. The electrical message is transmitted to the muscle by a substance called acetylcholine. BOTOX®/DYSPORT® blocks the release of acetylcholine and as a result, the muscles do not receive the message to contract.

    How is it administered?

BOTOX®/DYSPORT® is injected into the muscle. Our expert physician will determine the muscle(s) in need of treatment. He will examine your face to determine the way your muscles move and decide on the best placement for the injections.

Does the treatment hurt and what are the side effects?

A very thin needle is used to inject directly into the specific facial muscle. It may sting slightly, but discomfort is minimal, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. There is no downtime with a BOTOX®/DYSPORT® injection.

After an initial BOTOX®/DYSPORT® injection, redness, slight bruising or swelling may occur. An ice pack will be provided to gently compress the area. Since light bruising is possible, you can help us by avoiding all medications that increase the risk of bruising. Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, other NSAID medications, as well as alcohol, vitamin E, and fish oils prior to your treatment. Even so, there is a chance you still may bruise with the injections. Allow yourself 10-14 days before a big social event to allow any bruises to fade.

How long does the effect last?

Given its unique mechanism of action, BOTOX®/DYSPORT® offers sustained relief, dose after dose over the course of long-term treatment. The effect from a single treatment of BOTOX®/DYSPORT® will normally be sustained for approximately three to four months. You will notice a gradual fading of its effects. At this point you may return to The Murray Center for your next treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

The procedure is quick – the actual injection portion only takes about 10-15 minutes, once your face wrinkle pattern has been sorted out by our expert physician.

Are there any people that can’t have BOTOX/DYSPORT treatments?

Yes. BOTOX®/DYSPORT® is not recommended if you are pregnant or nursing. Also, BOTOX®/DYSPORT® is not recommended for patients with certain neurological disorders, like Myasthenia Gravis, ALS, and Lambert-Eaton syndrome and with neurological muscular condition.

              What is Jeuveau™?

Meet Jeuveau™ (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs)—aka the #NEWTOX! Jeuveau™ is a modern-made neurotoxin approved by the FDA to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines.1 Jeuveau™ is the first and only product of its kind dedicated exclusively to aesthetics! As the fourth neurotoxin to hit the market (and the only new option in almost a decade), Jeuveau™ is made using a state-of-the-art manufacturing process called Hi-Pure™ technology.2 Jeuveau™ is the first product from Evolus, and part of its mission to bring a fresh experience and perspective to the aesthetics industry. It’s about time!

Jeuveau™ (“off label” similar to Botox®), can also be used to soften and improve the lines and creases on the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), around the mouth, on the chin, and around the neck, to stop muscle movement and in turn, smooth out wrinkles.

              How does it work?

Jeuveau™ temporarily paralyzes your facial muscles to improve the appearance of moderate and severe fine lines on the face. Normally your brain sends electrical messages to your muscles so they can contract and move. The electrical message is transmitted to the muscle by a substance called acetylcholine. Jeuveau™ blocks the release of acetylcholine and as a result, the muscles do not receive the message to contract.

Can I have Jeuveau™ if I have had Botox® injections?

You absolutely can have Jeuveau™ injected even if you’ve had Botox® treatments before. Jeuveau™ is simply a new type of neuromodulator treatment which acts exactly like Botox®.

              Is Jeuveau™ like Dysport®?

Jeuveau™ is very similar to Dysport® (which is a proprietary type of neuromodulator). They are both derived from the same bacteria and work similarly to improve the appearance of lines and creases on the face.

              How is it administered?

Jeuveau™ is injected into the muscle.

There is no downtime with a Jeuveau™ injection.

After an initial Jeuveau™ injection, redness, slight bruising or swelling may occur. An ice pack will be provided to gently compress the area. Since slight bruising is possible, you can help us by avoiding all medications that increase the risk of bruising. Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, other NSAID medications, as well as alcohol, vitamin E, and fish oils prior to your treatment. Even so, there is a chance you still may bruise with the injections. How long does the effect last?

Given its unique mechanism of action, Jeuveau™ offers sustained relief, dose after dose over the course of long-term treatment. The effect from a single treatment of Jeuveau™ will normally be sustained for approximately three to five months. You will notice a gradual fading of its effects. At this point you may return to The Murray Center for your next treatment.

The procedure is quick – the actual injection portion only takes minutes, once your face wrinkle pattern has been sorted out by our expert physician.

Are there any people that can’t have Jeauveau™ treatments?

Yes. Jeuveau™ is not recommended if you are pregnant or nursing. Also, it is not recommended for patients with certain neurological disorders, like Lupus, Myasthenia Gravis, ALS, and Lambert-Eaton syndrome and with neurological muscular condition.
